  This is due to your hidden MMR being lower than your friend's. Meaning, if the game thinks you should stay where you are (or near it), you will start to gain less points per win and lose more per loss. But, if the game thinks you're better than your rank, you will gain more points per win and lose less per loss.

  Yes okay, I see.
  
  We thought of this and tried to understand : so we gathered our stats in order to do the maths and we can't figure out how to game estimate this.
  
  In fact, we don't know why my friend on console with less efficiency, less goals, less MVP titles is considered "better" or "at his correct rank".
  We're almost always playing together as 3 or 4, at the same rank (around master 1 and elite), through crossplay and the only one playing via Steam are getting punished this hard after a loss :'(
